Welcome
Dear readers,
Intense Startups – nCHIP – sVISION is my latest book. The paperback version was published on September 5, 2025, and the e-book version on November 8, 2025. It is a return to the world of high technology startups. The two startups grew in the 1990s. What made their development interesting, but challenging, as hardware focused, was the sudden appearance of the dot.com companies with their incredibly attractive business model for investors. From the first power point presentation to IPO at valuations in the hundreds of million dollars, in often less than two years. Investment money for the hardware companies quickly dried up and forced them to become very creative to continue to exist. Interesting lessons were learned. Despite the difficult odds, the two companies did develop technologies that are still relevant today with the appearance in the last few years of Chiplets to mitigate Moore’s law demise, and of new microdisplays for AR/VR headsets. I thought their story would encourage would-be entrepreneurs to make the jump, while keeping their eyes open to changing business environment risks.
This book is more than just an academic account of the Marshall plan implementation. It is also a plunge in the day-to-day life and work of the diplomats of the international organizations set-up to manage the aid, and of the general population. The author’s own recollections supplemented by numerous newspapers articles (Le Figaro, The Glasgow Herald) bring in vivid details of how difficult life was then, and yet how these hard times brought people together. In his quest to bring the reader close to the daily live struggles of the populations and of the diplomats of the Marshall plan, through a plethora of fascinating details, the author makes it sometimes difficult to keep in sight the big picture. Nevertheless, it is a fact rich, fascinating book, that is best absorbed in small servings at a time.
Dear Daniel,
I thank you very much for comments on Teamwork. Yes, it was the major challenge of this book to reach a balance between giving sufficient details to the reader to enable him a clear picture of these special times while keeping the big picture in mind. I appreciate you liked the book anyway! Luc
